With Viktor’s club set-up at the Tour Championship, there’s nothing new here to write about. His bag looked the same for both of his runaway victories the last two weeks. Still interested? Here’s what we wrote last week.
For your reading pleasure this week, we are diving into BALLS. The beautifully round, perfectly white pearlies played by the top 100 PGA Tour players (early 2023 summary).
Here is a usage breakdown of the Top 100 PGA pros, including highlighted players:
38 – Titleist Pro V1 // Viktor, Scheff, Homa
29 – Titleist Pro V1x // Cantlay, Speith, JT
9 – Callaway Chrome Soft X // Rahm, Burns
6 – Srixon Z-Star XV // Hideki, Shane Lowry
4 – TaylorMade TP5x // Rory, Fleetwood
4 – Titleist Pro V1 left dot (good luck finding these) // Big T
4 – Srixon Z-Star Diamond // Brooksie
3 – TaylorMade TP5 // Collin Morikawa
1 – Callaway Chrome Soft X LS // Xander
1 – Bridgestone Tour B X // Matt Kuchar
1 – Bridgestone Tour B XS // Brendan Steele
Now, the question of the hour? What ball would the pros use if they weren’t getting paid to play it (Hi Titleist and Callaway!)?
Our guess, roughly the same % of Titleist, fewer Callaways and more Bridgestone balls would be used on tour. Will we ever find out the truth? No f’ing way. Each of these guys will take their non-paid choices to the grave. And we don’t blame them. Money talks. Except when you’re actually getting paid.
