J.T. Poston fends off charging Ghim to win Shriners Children’s Open

– by Dylan Dethier / GOLF

Per Dylan: “J.T. Poston hadn’t three-putted for 109 consecutive holes on the PGA Tour. He wasn’t about to start now…”

B&B POV: Poston hadn’t played a PGA TOUR event in nearly two months. He was fresh. So fresh he went out and won himself the Shriners Children’s Open (aka the Las Vegas Invitational), $1.26M, and a very nice trophy. Yesterday’s triumph marked his 3rd on tour and vaulted the silky-swinging 31-year-old into 40th position in the OWGR, putting him into a great position (not guaranteed, but likely) to play in all of the big tourneys in ’25, including all four majors.

Report: LIV Golf looking for new CEO, will move Greg Norman out of role, perhaps to senior leadership

– by Tim Schmitt / Golfweek

Per Tim: “Greg Norman’s tenure as the CEO of LIV Golf has been a tumultuous one as the 20-time PGA Tour winner and former world No. 1 has butted heads with numerous organizations, made outlandish claims about the league’s ascension and even had him showing up at major events with tickets from a secondary market…”

B&B POV: How has he lasted this long?

If they make the right hire, it will add credibility to the fledgling tour. A new talisman won’t make the “product” any better or easier to find on TV, but people will take notice, and maybe the new hire can light a match under the arses of those brokering a formal truce/ceasefire/partnership with the PGA TOUR.

PAYDAY! 2024 Shriners Children’s Open Prize Money Payouts

– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: When the Shriners Children’s Open (LV Inv.) was first played in 1983, the official purse was the steepest on tour at $750,000 with Fuzzy taking home $135k for winning the event. In 1984, it became the first tourney with a million-dollar purse. Fast-forward 41 years and the Shriner’s, won yesterday by J.T. Poston, now has the smallest purse on tour at $7M (excluding the five opposite-field events).

Who would’ve ever thought Vegas would have dropped from first to worst?

Poston pocketed $1.26M, so he hardly paid attention to the smaller pool of green paid out to his peers yesterday. He also earned himself a guaranteed spot in the Masters.

Woods? Titleist. Hybrid? Titleist. Irons? Titleist. Pearlies? Yep, Titleist ProV1x…

Tour Confidential: Ryder Cup outrage, LPGA Player of Year, LIV leadership

– by GOLF Editors / GOLF

Check in every week for the unfiltered opinions of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest topics in the sport, and join the conversation by tweeting us at @golf_com. This week, we discuss the Ryder Cup ticket controversy, LPGA Player of the Year race and a reported shakeup coming to LIV Golf’s C-suite…

B&B POV:

  1. Ryder Cup tickets are $750 per. Too pricey? Not really. Less than a Super Bowl or Final Four ticket and tons more fun. No matter. I’m choosing to buy a new 85 in. with what I’m saving. At least that’s the excuse I’m telling the Mrs.
  2. Will the energy be less electric at ’25 Ryder Cup at Bethpage because of ticket prices? No. Rest assured, the crazy rich crazies will find their way to Bethpage.
  3. With five LPGA tourneys remaining on the ’24 schedule, does Nelly have POY honors locked up? Not if red-hot Lydia Ko goes off and wins 3 out of 5 coming in. At that point, Ko with her Olympic Gold medal in tow will lift the POY trophy.
  4. Harder to keep your PGA TOUR or PGA TOUR Champions card? We’re going with PGA TOUR Champions. Fewer spots keep their cards (36 vs. 125) and the ol’ boys are only a single swing/putt away from having to take 3 mos. off because of a bad back, bum knee, flashbacks of 30 years of reoccurring yips.
  5. Who will succeed Norman as LIV Golf CEO? Whoever’s the 2nd biggest D’bag in world golf.
