Presidents Cup recap: U.S. Team completes epic comeback to win at Medinah

Per Staff / PGATOUR.com: “Team golf never fails when it comes to drama-filled action. The 16th edition of the Presidents Cup is no different. For the first time in Presidents Cup history, the International Team held a lead (10.5-7.5) on foreign soil heading into Sunday Singles.”

B&B POV: We were silently rooting for the Internationals to win the Presidents Cup yesterday. Their victory would have ensured the event’s current format would have a future. But now that the US team has won its 11th straight Cup, we feel it’s time to blow up the event and return with a format that celebrates team golf with real parity.

Scottie Scheffler concedes 32-foot putt after fan yelled in Nico Echavarria’s back swing

Per Adam Schupak / Golfweek: If there were an award for good sportsmanship at the Presidents Cup, American Scottie Scheffler would win that prize too.

B&B POV: This story is as cool as it is sad. During Nico’s backswing on the par-4 14th, a jackal fan yelled. He hit it a country mile right and would likely never have made a par. So what did World #1 do? He conceded Nico a shot from off the green, and they ended up tying the hole. As pissed as Nico was, Scheff was, too, and off to the next tee they headed. Fans that yell during players’ swings should get gut punched and made to fill every fairway divot – for a month.

Tiger Woods should be Presidents Cup captain and lead Team USA into Ryder Cup in 2027

Per Paul Penderville / Talk Sport: “Tiger Woods has been making headlines again having stepped back out on the golf course just a few weeks ago.

However, rather than another aborted comeback story, and the endeavours of his talented son Charlie how much better would the game of golf be if Tiger was preparing for a never-before seen Presidents and Ryder Cup double?”

B&B POV: Here’s an interesting premise: Tiger Woods takes on the responsibility of captaining both the U.S. Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams in back-to-back years. Could the opportunity help repair his relationship with fans following his recent controversies and relative disappearance from competitive golf?

The first opportunity for Woods to pull off the double would come in 2028, when the Presidents Cup heads to Kingston Heath in Melbourne, followed by the 2029 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National just outside Minneapolis.

What putter models did the US team use to win the 2026 Presidents Cup?

Per Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys: Team USA brought out the big sticks at Medinah—and apparently the big putters, too.

The 2026 Presidents Cup started looking like a potential disaster for Team USA.

Then Sunday happened. And their putters got hot. Patrick Cantlay’s literally caught fire on the back nine as he scorched Adam Scott and the greens at Medinah. C.C. #3.

Fans and pundits can point to solid ball-striking and elevated match-play tactics as fuel for the US victory Sunday, but anyone who knows golf is pointing to the putters in each player’s bag as the key to what turned out to be a historic comeback victory for the US.

The mallet putter.

According to GOLF.com, all 12 members of the victorious U.S. team used mallet-style putters, including five TaylorMade Spider models and four Scotty Cameron Phantom models. God-given talent and equipment decisions led the Americans to post seven of the nine best putting displays during the event (Strokes Gained: Putting).

So, naturally, we had to take a closer look at what Team USA was rolling on the greens.

Who Choked? Who Stepped Up? The Sunday That Decided the Presidents Cup

Per Chris Lohman / Balls & Bogeys “The Internationals had a three-point lead. They needed five points. They got 2½. Meanwhile, Team USA went absolutely nuclear in singles. So who choked—and who stepped up when the Presidents Cup was on the line?

The International Team walked onto the first tee at Medinah Sunday morning with a 10½–7½ lead—the first time the Internationals had ever carried a lead into Sunday singles on American soil.

They needed five points from 12 matches.

Five.

Instead, they watched the Americans win nine matches, halve another and lose only two, turning a three-point deficit into a 17–13 victory and the United States’ 11th consecutive Presidents Cup.

That’s not a comeback.

That’s a beatdown wearing a clown costume in front of kids screaming for their mommies.

So let’s hand out some credit—and some blame.”
