Justin Rose goes on birdie binge, wins FedEx St. Jude Championship in playoff over J.J. Spaun
– by Adam Schupak / Golfweek
Per Adam: “Justin Rose believes in the Law of Large Numbers.
It is a principle of probability and statistics that as the average of the sample size grows, the average of the sample results will tend to get closer to the expected results. In Rose’s case, he couldn’t buy a putt through the first 12 holes of the final round but he trusted that if he stuck to his routine things would turn in his favor…”
B&B POV: Justin Rose turned back the clock at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship with some back-nine brilliance. The 45-year-old rattled off four straight birdies late to tie mini-me J.J. Spaun at 16-under, then out-dueled him in a three-hole playoff with a final fist-pump birdie. It’s Rose’s first win since 2023 and makes him the oldest Tour champ since Mickelson—proof that experience, a hot putter, and a flair for drama still play just fine for the Englishman who can close the deal (sorry, Tommy).

Rickie Fowler, Bud Cauley among 5 who played their way into next playoff event; Jordan Spieth’s season ends
– by Dave Shedloski / Golf Digest
Per Dave: “Of all the players who hovered on either side of the bubble in the battle to advance to the second stage of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the most compelling story belonged to the man whose career has been on a bubble for seven years…”
B&B POV: We’re most disappointed to see Jake Knapp drop out of the Top 50. The cool kid from Orange County is a star in the making. We aren’t surprised that Spieth missed out. His magic on the links may never return. And for Wyndham, he needs to spend a season on the bench and earn his way back into our hearts and Signature Events.

What’s in the Bag (WITB): Justin Rose, 2025 Edition
– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
Per Thomas: When Justin Rose hoisted the trophy at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, his clubs had a big role to play — and it’s worth taking a closer look at what helped him pull off that win and earn $3.6 million. He’s a gear-free agent and has been one for a minute or two. He makes his money on the course, not for putting a club manufacturer on his bag or hat.

Winners, Losers & Payouts from the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship
– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
Per Thomas: Justin Rose didn’t just win the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship—he basically turned the last five holes and playoff against J.J. Spaun into a fireworks show. It made for great TV – perfect TV, unless you are a huge fan of Tommy “So, So Close” Fleetwood, which we are.
Three strokes down with five to play? No problem. The 45-year-old cranked out six birdies in his final eight holes (includes playoff pressure), including a four-pack from holes 14 to 17. That’s not just good golf—that’s “should I check this guy’s birth certificate?” golf.

Why Bryson DeChambeau feels ‘called’ to his new government work
– by Sean Zak / GOLF
Per Sean Zak: “Bryson DeChambeau is doing a lot right now. In the last month his various interests have taken him from Spain to Northern Ireland to New York to England to the Mediterranean coast to Washington D.C. and, now, a week in Chicagoland, where in just a few minutes Wednesday he was practicing putting and texting with Roger Goodell and getting his hands on a new Titleist golf ball, all in advance of a late-afternoon meeting for the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, which he has been selected to chair… “
B&B POV: Trump + DeChambeau making policy decisions…never had this on my dance card.
