Your Golf News Update – Mon., October 13th, Edition

Monday, October 13th, 2025 Balls & Bogeys Golf News Edition

Winners, Losers & Payouts from the 2025 Baycurrent Classic

– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per  Thomas: For all of September and the first week of October, all the golf world could talk about was the Ryder Cup. The good, the bad, and the ugly. As golf’s spotlight shifted to Japan for the Baycurrent Classic last week, the sport seemed eager to return to what it does best — celebrate quietly decisive competition.

Tiger Woods undergoes Lumbar disc replacement surgery amid Achilles recovery

– by Tim Schmitt / Golfweek

Per Tim: “Tiger Woods’ long history of surgeries has unfortunately added another chapter — this time, a new procedure…”

B&B POV: Is now the right time for him to quasi-retire and pledge to Captain the US Ryder Cup squad for the foreseeable future?

Per Thomas:
At the 2025 Baycurrent Classic, Xander Schauffele didn’t just win another trophy — he reaffirmed what makes him one of golf’s most consistent performers.

His equipment isn’t about hype or marketing; it’s about performance and confidence built over time. There is no doubt that he is loyal to Callaway, his multi-million dollar manufacturer partner, but he isn’t using a full bag of their clubs, nor playing with their latest and greatest.

PGA Tour pro suffers the most brutal collapse while trying to shoot sub-60

– by Evan Priest / Golf Digest

Per Evan: “Matt McCarty may need a pat on the back and one of those ice-cold, extra-sudsy beers Japan is famous for after coughing up a potential 59—or 58—in the most devastating way during Sunday’s final round at the Baycurrent Classic outside Tokyo…”

B&B POV: How great would it be to post an 11-under 60 and be pissed off?

We do feel for McCarty, who endured a final hole OB off the tee that cost him two strokes, but to shoot a 59, one must close the deal!

Jeeno Thitikul becomes LPGA’s first repeat winner of 2025 after playoff in China

– by Beth Ann Nichols / Golfweek

Per Beth: “It’s over. The LPGA streak that produced 26 different winners on the LPGA in 25 events ended when world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul won on the fifth playoff hole at the Buick LPGA Shanghai…”

B&B POV: The primary theme on the LPGA Tour this season has been parody. Jeeno’s victory yesterday in China broke a season-long streak of seeing different winners across every event on the schedule in 2025. Finally, someone broke through to win their 2nd event of the season. It’s fitting that World #1, who hails from Thailand, closed the deal in her 5-hole sudden death playoff against Minami Katsu of Japan.
