Hollywood Rich – Our Picks for the 123rd U.S. Open

A premier track in the heart of Hollywood with more than 100 years of history, Los Angeles Country Club is poised to host its first Major Championship, ever. The term half-par is trending with player and fans trading tips about how to hack it around this ultra-exclusive course. Players are raving about the Gil Hanse restoration in the lead up to Thursday’s tee times. There’s a good feeling in the air and it seems the PGA Tour and LIV Golf Players are BFFs again, right? No doubt, this is going to be one of the better Major Championships as far as entertainment factor in recent years. Let’s get rolling…

In the short 4-weeks since the PGA Championship, the landscape of the golf world has changed just a smidge, but the game remains unchanged. Canadian Nick Taylor brought his national open back home in dramatic fashion, eh (and Adam Hadwin submitted his tackling dummy try-out footage to NFL and CFL teams). Viktor his first victory of the year after flirting hard with the winner’s circle at Oak Hill, Augusta and Sawgrass (and seven Top-10s). And Phil restocked his cabinet with a Costco sized pallet of shoeshine to repurpose as his hair gel.

So, for the forth time this year, we are back with our pool picks, individual picks and some matchup picks. As a reminder the pool picks are broken up as follows: 2 players from the Top 10, 2 from 11-20, 2 Players from 21-30 and then 2 from remaining field:

Tier 1 – Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland

Tier 2 – Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa

Tier 3 – Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama

Tier 4 – Emiliano Grillo, Rickie Fowler

Our favorite bet this week is Collin Morikawa (+2800). He’s very familiar with the course having played his college golf at Cal and his strong iron play will be rewarded if he is able to execute like he’s capable of.

For the gambling feens like myself, a few others I’ll be monitoring:

  • To Win Outright
    • Max Homa (+2300)
    • Cameron Young (+3800)
    • Xander Schauffele (+1500)
  • To Finish Top 10
    • Brooks Koepka (+135)
    • Denny McCarthy (+700)
