Show off and sink a chip shot or two: A great tip from Jackie Riegle, PGA – Monarch Beach Golf Links

Jackie Riegle, the director of player development at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, CA, is one of SoCal’s finest instructors. And in the video below, she shares a great tip to better manage how far your chip shots roll out. Click to contact Jackie and schedule your next lesson.

Here are a few of our favorite chip shot swing thoughts to improve your short game:

  • When chipping and pitching, quiet your hands like Jason Day. Let your shoulders and torso do most of the work.
  • Make consistent contact. With short chip shots, for righties, make sure the butt of your wedge points just left of your zipper. A chip shot is never a scoop shot.
  • Focus on where you want the ball to land, not where you want it to end up.
  • Always leave your chip underneath the hole. Flat or uphill putts are wayyyyyy easier to make than drippers and snakes.
  • Learn the roll. Through practice and patience, gain an understanding of how far your ball will roll out. See Jackie’s tip below.

Watch the video. Practice our tips. And shock your playing partners the next time you hole out from off the green.
