Tiger shares his top tip to hit flop shots off tight lies

Tiger’s tip is too easy not practice and put into play.

When you are left with a greenside shot off of a tight lie to a close pin, make sure to accelerate through the shot with a square-to-open face.

We aren’t saying you will master this technique overnight, but if you follow Tiger’s tip, and the additional pitching advice we include below, you will be able to hit this shot with confidence.

Our tips:

  • Accelerate through the shot and make sure your upper body turn through impact
  • Hold the face of the club square-to-open
  • Hit the ground. Don’t be afraid to take a little divot and engage the bounce of the sand/lob wedge. The bounce will ensure you don’t dig too much.
  • Practice. Practice. Practice.
