Yesterday, Hodges pocketed $1.4M and lifted his 1st Big-A Trophy of his burgeoning PGA Tour career. Congrats young man. A 7-shot victory should have at least come with a fat check and a new Buick. But no Buick for Lee. Maybe next time.
Now for J.T. Poston…he teed off on 18 sitting 3 back of Hodges and 3 up on those sitting in 3rd place. Professional golf purgatory. After pushing his drive right and landing inside the hazard line, he left himself with an awkward side hill lie. He decided to go for gold and attack the green, which was sitting on the other side of a big ol’ lake. Ballsy. And stupid. He dunked it. And then proceeded to make triple, eventually tying for 2nd vs winning outright. His “balls” cost him $260k. Ouch.
Afterward, he told the media assembled he had no regrets. If that is truly the case, J.T. will move on from his costly decision, and with his talent, go on to win a handful of PGA Tour events. But if the decision haunts him even a little bit, in the future, he will play like a changed man, and every time he has to pull off a clutch shot down the stretch to win another event, his heart will race a little harder than expected, his grip will hold onto the club a little tighter than necessary, and his ass will pucker like he’s leaning in to kiss the 1st place pig with memories of the disaster that was his last hole finish yesterday.
