Talk about a birdie that was worth a cool $1.368 million! Kevin Yu, the 26-year-old from Arizona State, decided to turn his first PGA Tour win into a cinematic moment. He birdied the 72nd hole like he was auditioning for a role in “Who’s Who? Yu Who!”, then casually rolled in his birdie putt on the first playoff hole.. First win, check. Big check, oh, yeah! A trophy for the mantle, but of course.
Yu’s victory at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship means he’s not only $1.368 million richer but also No. 60 in the FedEx Cup standings—a spot so exclusive it’s like getting into a VIP golf club with six bouncers checking your swing.
Now, he’s headed to the big leagues, scoring spots in the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational. Yu really knows how to make an entrance—just ask Beau Hossler, who Yu cooked in the playoff.
Sunday’s Movers and Losers:
- First off, only six players shot over par for the day. To say the course was playing easy would be an understatement by a mile.
- The high score for the day went to Rico Hoey who ended up finishing last for all players who made the cut. Even if he had shot 2-under, he would have still finished tied for last. Cut made, check. Big check earned, not this week.
- Alex Smalley fired a tourney-best tying 63 (lowest for the day) on Sunday and jumped 17 places to finish T-5
- Ex-Ryder Cupper Daniel Berger played some of his best golf last week since returning to the tour after a crippling back injury. His seventh-place finish was his 1st top-10 of the season and hopefully is a springboard to him regaining his pre-injury form. He fired a smooth 5-under Sunday.
- Canadian and recent member of the losing International Team in the Presidents Cup fired an 8-under 64 Sunday and jumped 23 places to finish T-8. Poutine time!
