Yesterday was one of those special occurrences where the fat cats on both the PGA TOUR and LIV Golf took home really big checks. In fact, the PGA TOUR had two Tournaments wrap up Sunday – the Scottish Open in conjunction with the DP World Tour and the opposite field event Isco Championship.
Let’s breakdown what the winner’s pocketed starting with the biggest banger:
- Sergio Garcia, LIV Golf Andalucia, 5-under, $4M
- Robert MacIntyre, Scottish Open, 18-under, $1.62M
- Harry Hall, Isco Championship, 22-under, $720k
Not only did Sergio take home the most cash for his individual title, but he and his fellow Fire Ballers also pocketed $750k each for winning the LIV team exhibition, which was more than Harry Hall won for besting a field of PGA Tour members.
How about OWGR ranking points and FedEx Cup points? How’d the three winners fare there?
- Robert MacIntrye – jumped from 44th in the world to 16th // (FedEx – 500 points, ranked 16th)
- Harry Hall – jumped from 188th in the world to 100th // (FedEx – 300 points, ranked 80th)
- Sergio Garcia – fell from 321st to 323rd in the world // (N/A)
This simple breakdown is further proof that professional golf is broken. The money is crazy. The ongoing feud between the PGA TOUR/LIV is stupid. And, the fact Sergio’s world ranking fell while winning is nonsensical.
Back to the positives that came out of Robert’s and Harry’s victories…
With his victory, Robert has likely locked up a spot in every major next year and the Tour Championship this year. That means he can budget for a big cash windfall in ’25 and more visibility through the end of next season which will likely lead to larger product endorsement checks.
With Harry’s victory, he locked up a two-year tour exemption and entry into the Players Championship. He now can take a deep breath knowing that he’ll be playing on the PGA TOUR through 2026. His victory is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
With Sergio’s victory, he merely can buy an island. Or an even bigger jet. Basically, whatever his heart desires. Except for exemptions into the PGA Championship, US Open and Open Championship, unless those tourneys change course and exempt top finishers of LIV events into their major championships.
