Spiny to winny wedges with Scheff

You don’t become world #1 without a killer short game. And Scotty Scheffler’s short game is considered one of the best in golf.

He’s a maestro with a wedge in his hand. Not only does he use great technique–he’s put in thousands of hours of practice and works with one of the best coaches in the world–but he also has steely calm hands and visualizes every shot.

Here are our biggest takeaways and tips after studying his technique and watching a video recently released by TaylorMade.

How to do it:

  1. Shallow out impact. Don’t come in steep hoping to impart spin. Shallwoing out your swing will help ensure you engage the bounce of your wedge and get the ball in the air.
  2. Use speed. Make sure to finish your short swing to generate adequate spin.
  3. Don’t be rigid. Your lower body will slightly turn back and your chest will finish facing the target. Your motion will resemble a shorter full swing.

Watch the video below to see Scheff in action. Practice his primary technique until you begin to ‘own it.’ And finally, with confidence, take your new short game skills out on the course and impress your playing partners.
