Scottie Scheffler delivered a commanding win at the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, finishing at 31-under-par to tie the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record. The victory, his first of the season and 14th career PGA Tour title, earned him $1.782 million. Scheffler remains the undisputed World No. 1, holding the top spot for over 100 consecutive weeks. The win was especially meaningful as it came in his hometown of McKinney, Texas, where he first played professionally over a decade ago.
Jordan Spieth also made headlines with a strong fourth-place finish, including firing a PGA TOUR career-best 62 on Sunday, and took home $485,100 for his fiery finish. After wrist surgery sidelined him in late 2024, Spieth has steadily regained form in 2025. This result boosted him back into the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, currently sitting at No. 50. With his game trending upward, he’s on track for a solid showing in the upcoming majors.
Next up: both players are expected to focus their attention on the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Winners and Losers from Sunday at the Bryon Nelson:
- Winner: Jordan Spieth. Jordan shot a career-best, bogey-free 62 in the final round and jumped 19 places on the leaderboard, finishing up in solo 4th. He now has three top-5 finishes this season and has only missed one cut out of seven events played with a cut. He’s trending ⬆️
- Loser: Rasmus Højgaard. His final round 75 dropped him 41 spots on the leaderboard, landing in T49, only one stroke better than his identical twin Nicolai. At least he beat his DNA last week.
- Winner: Sam Stevens. Stevens rebounded from a pedestrian last group 70 on Saturday to fire a final round 7-under 64, jumping four spots on the leaderboard. He finished in solo 3rd. Nice.
- Loser: The golf course. The players tore it up. It looked like a LIV course on TV (unremarkable, average turf conditions). The sooner they find a new venue for the Byron Nelson (or return to Las Colinas), the better.
- Winner: Scheffler. Handsome-man Erik van Rooyen did his best to make the big Tex sweat on Sunday, but even though he fired a stellar 8-under 63, he couldn’t make up any ground on Scottie. When was the last time the final pairing both shot 63’s? Maybe at Kapalua.
