Enjoying a cocktail or three while playing a round of golf is the finest of rituals. A hot toddy before a chilly round. A Claw or two when playing in Palm Springs, especially when the sun is beating down. A Bloody Mary on the range at the company sales team bonding scramble.
However, when enjoying the buzzy stuff while playing the gentlemen’s game, there are some tips to ensure you have a memorable and embarrassing-free experience. Here are our favorites:
- Eat some food. Don’t be a dummy. Eat while you drink. Start with a breakfast burrito. And power back a Snickers or two during the round. Empty stomach = trouble.
- One + One. For every alcoholic beverage you take down, drink at least 8 oz of water. If you don’t, you’ll end up with the spinnies and missing two-footers.
- Stay away from doubles no matter what extra-special discount the beverage cart girl is offering up.
- Shots, Shots, Shots!!! Should only happen if you’re driving home in an UBER, UBER, UBER!!!
- Best practice: One before you tee it. One at the turn. And one down the stretch. You can never go wrong with this cadence.
Like any good Balls & Boys golf lesson, make sure to practice our tips plenty.
