Here are our top 7 tips to win at Match Play
- Bloody Mary with a beer back, before warm-up
- Go to the bathroom, early and often. It will throw off your opponent and keep you swinging freely
- Always remember: No matter how poorly you play a hole or three, you never have to post a score
- Be liberal with your gimme putts. You might get a few in return. And, 3-5 footers under pressure aren’t fun for anyone. Then flip the switch. Make him/her putt out every hole. Pucker up time.
- Visualize winning right before and after you see the beverage cart
- Don’t take yourself or your match too seriously, unless you’re playing for money, pride, or a trophy
- In all seriousness, playing match play against an evenly-matched opponent is tons of fun — just make sure to practice the format a handful of times before you play a big match or in a tourney. If you don’t, well….
