Wanamaker Some $$$? Here are our best bets for the 2023 PGA Championship

Both Par-5 holes playing 600+ yards. Two Par-3 holes playing 230+ yards. 4” deep Kentucky Bluegrass rough. A 7,400-yard course playing at Par 70. It’s Major week, baby.

Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course is hosting its 7th Major Championship (1980, 2003 and 2013 PGA Championships, 1956, 1968 and 1989 U.S. Open) and boasts an extra 250 yards added onto the course since they last hosted in 2013. So, luckily for the goofy scientist, DeChambeau, this year’s course is playing at what, a Par-64? He did slim down a bit so maybe Par-74 is more appropriate…

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are still playing some hot golf. Tyrrell Hatton has been popping up on first page of leaderboards. Jason Day got his mojo back last week. Xander has scored very well in some of the last few tournaments. And Emiliano Grillo is going to be one of our sleeper picks for a prop bet.

Once again, we are back to assist you in identifying who we believe to be the best picks for this week’s Major Championship. Pool picks, Individual picks and some matchup picks. As a reminder the Pool picks are broken up as follows: 2 players from the Top 10, 2 from 11-20, 2 Players from 21-30 and then 2 from remaining field:

Tier 1

Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele

Tier 2

Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Thomas

Tier 3

Corey Conners, Shane Lowry

Tier 4

Emiliano Grillo, Jason Day

Since I’ve got to pick just 1 as my winner, I’m going with Jon Rahm (+750) for the back-to-back major championships. Donald Ross courses demand accuracy, and Rahm has been a wizard with his irons.

For those who also are interested in sprinkling a few bets here and there, take a look below for few others I’ll be monitoring:

  • To Win Outright
    • Xander Schauffele (+1300)
    • Bryson DeChambeau (+15000) – if I have to watch him hoist that trophy, I will be doing it while swimming in money Scrooge McDuck style at least.
  • To Finish Top 10
    • Collin Morikawa (+275)
    • Emiliano Grillo (+1600)
    • Sahith Theegala (+600)
  • First Round Matchups (stay tuned for more of these as the weekend progresses!)
    • Corey Conners (-110) -vs- Gary Woodland
    • Justin Thomas (-120) -vs- Viktor Hovland
    • Thomas Pieters (-115) -vs- Christian Bezuidenhout
    • Max Homa (+105) -vs- Cameron Young

For those of you who love to “invest” your money in DFS on Draft Kings or FanDuel, here is our line-up this week:

Finau – Because he’s hot (his game and his good looks) and we’d love to see him on the 18th green Sunday dancing with his family.

Padraig – SuperSpeed’s newest ambassador, he is playing at such a high level on the PGA Tour Champions; and, he was affordable to add to our line-up, so we just couldn’t pass him up.

Tyrrell – Love this guy. There is just something about him that is relatable. He doesn’t shy away from expressing himself on the course. And at Oak Hill, he’ll be dropping some F-bombs for sure, but also hitting lasers and dropping snakes. Bet on it!

Keith Mitchell – The visor will match the course. Old school. If he can keep his driver in the fairways, he is definitely a sleeper pick. And to keep our line-up under the alloted budget, we needed to pick a few sleepers.

Rahmbo – So thick. So strong. So determined. So on fire. So ready to win his 2nd Major in a row and 3rd overall. If he finishes outside of the Top 10, we’ll be shocked. If he misses the cut, we’ll cry and likely lose all the money we pumped into Draft Kings. Let’s gooooo!

Nick Taylor – We always pick a Husky, and our money is on Nick making the cut over Joel Dahmen, the only two UW Huskies in the field. Come on Nick. You’ve played well this year. It’s time to show off at the PGA.

So that’s it. Good luck with your bets this week.
