Back in 2022, JT walked off the green at the PGA Championship clutching the Wanamaker Trophy like a boss. At just 29, he was already a two-time major champ and had racked up 15 PGA Tour wins. Life was good. He was cruising. He was handsome, tall, and rich. The guy was basically golf’s golden retriever—energetic, always winning.
And then his game started to deteriorate, his confidence waned, and every time he was in contention to win a tourney, he failed. But at least he kept getting those big fat checks from the club manufacturer he endorses, Titleist—the best in the business.
Over the next 59 tournaments, JT did get close at times, but not close enough. He notched 16 top-10s, 10 top-fives, and three painfully close runner-ups, but the W column stayed empty. He missed the FedEx Cup playoffs in 2023, got ghosted by the Presidents Cup team in 2024, and even split with longtime caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay right before the Masters this year. Rough stretch for one of golf’s Young Guns superstars? Understatement of the decade.
To make things even more dramatic, he almost won the Valspar a few weeks back… until Viktor Hovland said, “Nope,” and sprinted past him with a Sunday charge.
Meanwhile, JT was doing the whole adulting thing—getting married, becoming a dad, you know, small stuff. Life kept moving, even as the wins didn’t.
But all that led to this Sunday. JT dug deep, beat Andrew Novak in a playoff at the 2025 RBC Heritage, and finally—finally—snapped that winless streak. The climb back to the top was long, sweaty, and probably filled with a lot of swearing, but he’s back, baby.
And something tells me this comeback is just getting started.
Back to Titleist. His bag is 100% pure bread Titleist from driver to putter to glove to ball. Heck, he likely plays with tightie whities with the infamous Titleist script on the band.
Life is far from hard when you’re a winning PGA TOUR star playing with the best equipment in the biz. No wonder he’s back. And he’s earned it through hard work and guile. Congrats to JT and his team. After his win yesterday, it’s time to ramp up his formal resurgence. We would not be surprised if he strings together more than a few tourney victories in the next 9-12 mos.
Let’s gooooo!
Key WITB takeaways:
- He gets every bit of juice out of his 10-degree GT2 driver. He swings it with 100% authority, and this week the results told one story: hitting fairways at Harbour Town leads to cashing a big fat check.
- His fairway woods have some history to go along with wear and tear. His TS3 3-metal has been in his bag for at least a couple of years, and the five wood he played with this week, Titleist 915 FD model, first hit the market while JT was still in his teens. We can’t confirm how many times he’s played with that club since 2014, but we do know he won with it yesterday. Good luck finding one on eBay.
- Vokey wedges, but of course
- A cool as hell prototype Scottie putter (to go along with Xander Schaufelle lessons) led to a handful of snakes being drained last week, including the one he strangled on the 1st playoff hole.
- Pro V1x is his pearlie of choice.
