WITB Presented by Golf Galaxy: Aaron Rai, 2024 Wyndham Championship

Aaron Rai is paid by Titleist to play their ball – Titleist ProV1. However, he isn’t paid by any other major club manufacturer to play their equipment. He’s a gear free agent. Who just won his first PGA Tour event, the Wyndham Championship, vaulting him to 22^nd in the world.

Why is Rai so good? What gifts from the man above have fueled his two-month-long heater that has propelled him to his first PGA Tour victory?

Let’s start here. He ranks #2 in driving accuracy, continually slicing fairways and steering clear of the long grass. He also ranks #4 in greens hit in regulation, and 31^st in proximity to hole. These stats prove three things: 1/He’s a machine and hits his golf ball solid and straight; 2/His equipment is working for him; 3/Currently ranked 51^st in SG:Putting, if he improved this stat, even just a little, he’d become a top-ten player in the world. He’s that close to becoming a golf phenom.

Back to his gear. Even though he could play with any equipment on the planet, he still only plays with clubs made by Titleist and TaylorMade. That speaks volumes for who arguably is the best ball strker on the planet not named Scottie Scheffler. He loves his T&T clubs.

His TaylorMade M6 driver rolled out to consumers in early 2019. This particular driver model does has not been played by a free agent tour winner since we first started reporting on gear 2+ years ago.
He plays with a Titleist TSR2 4-hybrid. This is an interesting choice since he doesn’t miss many fairways and thus doesn’t need to hack it back into play all that often. We would have expected to see a 4-iron of 5/7 wood vs. a traditional hybrid.
He plays with Tiger’s blade irons. Only the purest of ball strikers dare to play with Tiger’s set of knives.
