WITB Winner’s Bag: Jon Rahm, 2023 American Express

Rahm’s equipment setup featured one change from when he last teed it up (and won) at Kapalua in the TOC 2-weeks ago. For The American Express he switched out a 5-wood and put into play a Callaway driving iron. With his swing he can put some sting into his stingers.

Good call on his part. He won the tournament — and we’re giving most of the credit to his big equipment move (not really), with his world-class golf game coming in a close 2nd (definitely the main reason).

We love the way he can work his driver. He has full control. This week we saw some nice lower draws and plenty of high fades when he wanted to fly it 300 and keep it in the fairway. When he’s driving it the way he is right now, coupled with his all-around great iron play, he’ll be in contention every week.

His only weakness, if you dare call it a weakness, is his putting. It can run cool at times. But most of the guys on tour deal with cool streaks with the flat stick. His cool just runs hotter than most.
