Thomas Detry closes in style for first PGA Tour victory at 2025 WM Phoenix Open

– by Adam Schupak / Golfweek

Per Adam: “Thomas Detry could sense his lead slipping away. Winless in his career on the PGA Tour, his five-shot advantage on Sunday had momentarily been trimmed to two but the 32-year-old Belgian was determined this time would be different…”

B&B POV: For those who’ve never heard of Thomas Detry, take note. He dominated last week, especially on Sunday, winning the Waste Management against a tough field. He’s made all five cuts so far in ’25, including a T-5 finish in the season-opening Sentry signature tour event at Kapalua. He’s now ranked 22nd in the world. For players with swings and putting strokes as solid as Detry’s, winning becomes contagious. We have no doubt he’s going to have a STRONG season. Start placing your bets now on the 32-year-old from Brussels.

Tiger Woods, President Donald Trump play golf on Sunday morning ahead of Trump’s Super Bowl visit

– by Brentley Romine / NBC Sports

Per Brentley: “Before Tiger Woods returns to PGA Tour action next week at Torrey Pines, he is playing a round of golf with President Donald Trump in South Florida…”

B&B POV: President Trump had a busy Sunday that most of us would love to experience but never will. Early AM he played a round of golf with the GOAT and then chased it by watching the Superbowl halftime show in a luxury suite with friends, family, and at least a dozen of the Secret Service’s finest. Work hard, play hard!

Winner’s Bag: Thomas Detry’s golf equipment at 2025 WM Phoenix Open

by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: Thomas Detry did right by Callaway and Odyssey (Callaway’s putter line), winning the 2025 Waste Management with a full bag of Callaway gear. Each of his 14 clubs and ball of choice bears the brands’ names.

Thomas’ stats have been rock solid in his five PGA TOUR starts this season, currently sitting in 10th place for total Strokes Gained. (Note: For those unfamiliar with the metric, our friends at Shot Scope do a great job explaining it.) He’s also 14th Off The Tee and 10th in Putting. Winners win, and now that Detry has lifted his first Big Ass PGA TOUR trophy, he’s about to go on a madman heater. Bank on it!…

PAYDAY! The 2025 WM Phoenix Open Winners & Losers

– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: Yesterday, both the Philadelphia Eagles and Thomas Detry were victorious. Each bruised and bloodied Eagles player took home $171,000 for taking it to the Chiefs. Detry, looking spiffy in his Hugo Boss white polo and khakis, barely broke a sweat on his way to winning the Waste Management. For his accomplishment, $1,656,000 was deposited into his bank account, minus an absurd amount of taxes. Even more absurd, Adrian Meronk won the LIV “under the lights” exhibition in Saudia Arabia and took home $3.6M. Honestly, if the guys on LIV made less money, especially for playing under the lights, similar to the boring The Match & Shootout events now made famous at the Wynn, I would take their 54-hole event circuit more seriously. This is just one middle-class man’s opinion…

President Donald Trump meets with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Adam Scott about PGA Tour-PIF deal

– by Cameron Jourdan / Golfweek

Per Cameron: “Monahan, Scott and Tiger Woods released a joint statement discussing the meeting, as the trio discussed the future of professional golf and asked Trump to get involved for the good of the game and try to get a unification of professional golf closer to the finish line…”

B&B POV: The PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and Aussie Adam Scott, a Player Director on the PGA Tour’s Policy Board, decided it was time to call in some reinforcements. So, on Tuesday, they strutted into the White House for a meeting with President Trump—because why not? During the election, Trump proclaimed that he could resolve the PGA Tour/LIV feud in 15 minutes. Golf fans want to know when the 15 starts up. Let’s goooooooo!
