Peak Rory? McIlroy delivers complete win at Pebble Beach’s cathedral

– by Brentley Romine / NBC Sports

Per Brentley: “With Carmel Bay glistening behind him on Sunday afternoon, Rory McIlroy was asked by a Sky Sports reporter if we had all just witnessed 72 holes of peak Rory…”

B&B POV: Only three golfers beat Rory last week: Tiger, Kiz, and Tom “The Sloth” Kim. And that was TGL sim golf.

While playing real golf, Rory was victorious at Pebble Beach, winning by 2 shots over fellow Ryder Cupper and Northern Irish bud Shane Lowry, and 3 shots over fellow TGL competitors Big Chaw Lucas Glover and Rosey. In 9 weeks or so, Rory is teeing it up in Augusta. If he can play in the Masters like he did last week at Pebble, only one other golfer on the planet can beat him. One. His name is Scottie.

A Lim Kim Opens LPGA Season by Holding Off Nelly Korda in a Wire-to-Wire Win

– by Associated Press / LPGA

Per The AP: “A Lim Kim responded to a late charge by Nelly Korda with three birdies on her final four holes for a 5-under 67 and a two-shot victory Sunday in the LPGA season opener at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions…”

B&B POV: World #1 and SI Swimsuit model Nelly Korda fired a 7-under 65 Sunday but couldn’t catch A Lim Kim, who held on to win the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions by two and wire-to-wire. Nelly, coming off a 7-win season, has to feel good about her game even though she didn’t lift the gaudy trophy on the 18th green yesterday. Can she match the standard she set for herself last season? If she’s going to make a run for GOAT-level status—and she has the talent to do it—she’ll need to bring it!

– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

One such player is Rory McIlroy, who won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am yesterday afternoon. 14 clubs, TaylorMade. Beautiful white pearlies flying high and stopping on a dime, TaylorMade TP5…

PAYDAY! The 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Winners & Losers

– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: Rory McIlroy is officially batting 1.000 on the PGA Tour in 2025. One start, one win—and his game is in top form.

The 35-year-old golfing machine cruised to his 27th career PGA Tour victory on Sunday, taking down the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am like it owed him money. He wrapped things up at 21 under, holding off Shane Lowry by two shots and finally snagging a win in California for the first time in a decade. Oh, and it’s his first W at Pebble Beach.

For his efforts, McIlroy walks away with a casual $3.6 million…

Tour vet calls out pros for slow play, Tour commitment in letter

– by Sean Zak / GOLF

Per Sean: “The letter-writing era of the PGA Tour continued Sunday night, with 20-year veteran Charley Hoffman calling for his fellow Tour members to keep pace of play top of mind and to consider adding more Tour events to their schedules before other golf opportunities…”

B&B POV: Charley Hoffman is one of our favorite steady Eddie journeymen on the PGA TOUR.  He’s played on tour 20+ seasons, winning four times along the way, and is 48 years old. He’s seen the tour evolve in good ways and bad. His current ‘state of the tour’ position, which he shared last night via email with his peers, was spicy.

Key takeaways from Charlie’s email:

– Everyone: Play faster! Fans will like you more.
– Tour brass: Fix the schedule, including who qualifies for the biggest events.
– Tour stars: Play more PGA TOUR events. Don’t say you want to play fewer events and then turn up in Dubai or on TV playing super SIM golf with Tiger (Rory, this one is for you!).
