Rory McIlroy wins 2024 DP World Tour Championship, captures sixth Race to Dubai title
– by Cameron Jourdan / Golfweek
Per Cameron: “A tumultuous year for Rory McIlroy has ended on top.
The 35-year-old from Northern Ireland birdied two of his final three holes Sunday at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai to win the 2024 DP World Tour Championship for the third more…”
B&B POV: Rory may have brutally lost the US Open to DeChambeau at Pinehurst, finishing solo 2nd, and didn’t even contend for any other majors, Olympic gold, The Players, or FedEx Cup, but he still had himself a solid season by anyone else’s standards not named Scottie or Xander. He topped off his year yesterday with a DP World Tour Championship victory (along with Race to Dubai title), his 4th professional win in 2024 – two PGA TOUR victories and a pair of DP World Tour victories. What’s up next for golf’s 2nd biggest draw? We’re forecasting a big ’25 for Rory that’ll include him lifting two major trophies. Place your bets today!
Donald Trump: Is he the most powerful man in golf?
– by Chris Lohman / Balls & Bogeys
Per Chris: “Rory McIlroy says Donald Trump’s election to the United States presidency could “clear the way” for an end to the schism in professional golf.
Earlier today, It was reported that he met with both PIF (LIV’s backers) and the PGA TOUR over the last week. What was discussed is “classified” for fans of golf; certainly, Trump brought up how great it would be for the game of golf, and for his golf courses to be able to host meaningful tourneys again, if a truce/merger/investment/acquisition, heck, anything more substantive than a weak arse framework agreement came to fruition between both parties and soon. Fingers crossed…”
On verge of losing PGA Tour card, Rafael Campos gets first win at 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship
– by Cameron Jourdan / Golfweek
Per Cameron: “It’s a good thing Rafael Campos’ flight wasn’t delayed.
He didn’t get to Port Royal Golf Course until 11:30 a.m. local time Thursday, about an hour an a half before his tee time at the PGA Tour’s 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He was at home with his wife, Stephanie, who gave birth to the couple’s first child on Monday…”
B&B POV: Rafael Campos almost didn’t tee it up last week in Bermuda because he and his wife gave birth to their first child on Monday. But he’s glad he did!
He just went from “Who’s that guy?” to “That guy!” after snagging his first PGA Tour victory at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Sunday. Battling breezy conditions at Port Royal Golf Course, he turned 72 holes of golf into 72 reasons to celebrate.
Starting the week way back at 147th in the FedEx Cup standings, Campos skyrocketed to 80th, proving that golf is not only a game of inches—it’s a game of ranking leaps. And the perks? Oh, they’re sweeter than Bermuda rum cake:
- A $1,242,000 winner’s check (which we assume he’s already mentally spent).
- A golden ticket to the 2025 Masters (cue Augusta chills).
- Job security on the PGA Tour through 2025 (goodbye Monday qualifiers, hello stability).
Hey Campos! Congrats on the birth of baby #1. And congrats on becoming a PGA Tour tournament victor. That’s one helluva week!

WITB: Rory McIlroy, 2024 DP World Tour Championship
– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
Per Thomas: Yesterday, Rory McIlroy won the DP World Tour Championship and pocketed $3M. He also took home an additional $2M for finishing first in the DP Tour Race to Dubai points standing. So let’s call that a nice $5M afternoon. When you add the $5M to the already $20M+ he won on the course in 2024 (includes tour points bonuses), he ended up clearing NFL quarterback-caliber cash this season – playing a game where you hit a little white ball into a little white-rimmed cup. Wow…

Tour Confidential: Rory’s big win, Ryder Cup money, LPGA rivalry
by GOLF Editors / GOLF
Check in every week for the unfiltered opinions of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest topics in the sport, and join the conversation by tweeting us at @golf_com. This week, we discuss a potential Ryder Cup payment structure, Rory McIlroy’s latest win, the LPGA’s newest rivalry and more.
B&B POV:
Rumors are swirling that the US Ryder Cup squad is going to be paid up to $400,000 per man and the International squad is saying, “we don’t want to be paid.” What’s going to happen here? The PGA of America will end up sending every player the same size check. It’ll be up to the individual to cash it. All will. And should.
Will Rory’s victory yesterday in the DP World Tour Championship help mute the demons screaming in his head that have kept him from winning a major the past 10 seasons? Will ’25 be the year he finally lifts another major championship trophy? We believe in Rory and feel he’ll lift not one, but two major trophies next year. However, we’ve been saying this at the end of every season the past decade. Let’s goooo Rory!
Are you surprised to learn Paul Azinger will be calling PGA TOUR Champions tourneys next season? No. But we are very much looking forward to it. Good re-hire.
Nelly vs. Charlie. A rivalry in the making that will draw more eyeballs to the LPGA Tour? For this to become a rivalry, Chalie Hull needs to start winning regularly on the LPGA Tour. Would a rivalry of two uber-talented, media-friendly, attractive players help draw more eyeballs? Without a doubt it would. However, for the LPGA Tour to really take off in a meaningful way it’s going to need a Caitlyn Clark-level phenom to join its ranks. If Charlie or Nelly or Rose go out and win 10 tourneys and 2 majors a year for a decade, now we are talking.
GOLF released their Top 100 Courses in the US list last week. What stood out most with the latest ranking? How jealous the list makes us of the uber-rich, and that five courses are listed above Augusta. But mostly how jealous we are.
