Patton Kizzire finds his ‘best version of me,’ ends six-year victory drought at 2024 Procore Championship

– by Adam Schupak / Golfweek

Per Adam: “Patton Kizzire came to California this week and hugged his first tree at the suggestion of his new sports psychologist. Days later, he hugged his wife, Kari, on the 18th green at Silverado Resort’s North Course as the champion of the Procore Championship, his third career PGA Tour title and first victory since 2018…”

B&B POV: Patton Kizzire by all intents and purposes did not play well on the PGA Tour this season. He missed more cuts than he made (10 vs. 9). He only had two top 10 finishes, both in opposite field events, finishing top 10 in the Myrtle Beach Classic and in the Barracuda, while the best players on tour were teeing it up in the Wells Fargo (Signature Event) and Open Championship (Major) at the same time. Fighting a mental uphill battle last week, he flipped the switch and played one helluva tournament, winning the Procore Championship by 5 shots – his 3rd career PGA Tour victory. He woke up this AM knowing he had locked up his tour card through 2026. Way to battle Patton!

The U.S. snapped its Solheim Cup slump thanks to this genius strategy

– by Zephyr Melton / Golfweek

Per Zephyr: “Entering Sunday singles at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, the U.S. team looked like it was on its way to a stress-free Solheim Cup-winning Sunday. With a 10-6 lead — and dominant performances from their biggest stars — it felt like a matter of when, not if, the Americans would earn the winning point…”

B&B POV: It took seven years for the US team of LPGA stars to win back the Solheim Cup from the Europeans. The professional women’s golf version of the Ryder Cup is just as nervy to play in and watch as the boys version if you find yourself rooting for one team or the other. We were rooting alright. Rooting for the Red, White, & Blue who came out on top 15.5 to 12.5 points at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia. Great golf was played by both teams, but the US just made more putts when it was needed, never backing down.
Our MVP’s:

  1. US Captain Stacey Lewis. She oozes the kind of leadership and guile US teams require for every professional team competition, men’s or women’s.
  2. Rose Zhang. 21 years old. Star. She went 4-0 in her second Solheim Cup. Get used to watching her compete in the event. She’s going to be a stalwart for the next 20 years.
  3. Nelly Korda. World #1 played like #1 the first two days of the event when the US needed her leadership and solid play to hep the good guys get out to a lead heading into Saturday (Day 2) and Sunday (Day 3). She finished 3-1-0 for the week.
  4. Charley Hull. The Brit is a flat-out star and one of the best competitors in the world. She may have only finished 3-2-0, but her moxie gave the Euros some much-needed juice, especially on Sunday when she whooped Nelly Korda in their singles match.
  5. Not Ally Ewing and Linn Grant who both finished 0-4-0. Ouch.

WITB Presented by Golf Galaxy: Patton Kizzire, Procore Championship

– Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: “After doing a little online research, we learned Procore Championship victor Patton Kizzire is sponsored by Titleist. Leading up to the Procore, we’re almost certain Titleist had not been featuring Patton in their tv commercials and print ads (at least we hadn’t seen his mug on our 75 inch anytime recently). That space is reserved for their biggest stars and hottest players. After this victory, we’re hoping Patton gets his due and TV time. He played lights out winning by five. He more than deserves a bit of late season fame….”

PAYDAY! 2024 Procore Championship & LIV Golf Chicago Prize Money Payouts

– Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys

Per Thomas: “Patton Kizzire won the Procore Sunday and pocketed the biggest check of his career – $1,080,000. Woot! Also finishing up Sunday in Chicago was LIV’s final individual tourney. The top three from that event each took home more than what Patton won, leading with Jon Rahm who won a Star Wars-themed trophy and banked $4M. He also cliched LIV’s season-long points competition which is similar to the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup points race. For that accomplishment he secured an $18M bonus. That’s just silly.

In addition to Kizzire earning the biggest check of his PGA Tour career on Sunday in Napa, so did David Lipsky ($654k), who additionally earned enough FedEx Cup points to ensure he kept his card for the 2026 season…”

Tour pro blasts topless celebrations at Solheim Cup

– by Matt Vincenzi / GolfWRX

Per Matt: “On Saturday, American Alison Lee holed out her approach on the par-4, 2nd hole for eagle. After the shot, Lee’s caddie, Taylor Takada and her playing partner Meghan Khang’s caddie, Jack Fulghum took off their shirts in celebration…”

B&B POV: The definition of click bait. With that out of the way, we love seeing caddies celebrate with their players during the big team competitions. They work so hard all year, and they love caddying in these events arguably just as much as the players love playing.  We say let it rip and strip.
