Yesterday, both the Philadelphia Eagles and Thomas Detry were victorious. Each bruised and bloodied Eagles player took home $171,000 for taking it to the Chiefs. Detry, looking spiffy in his Hugo Boss white polo and khakis, barely broke a sweat on his way to winning the Waste Management. For his accomplishment, $1,656,000 was deposited into his bank account, minus an absurd amount of taxes. Even more absurd, Adrian Meronk won the LIV “under the lights” exhibition in Saudia Arabia and took home $3.6M. Honestly, if the guys on LIV made less money, especially for playing under the lights, similar to the boring The Match & Shootout events now made famous at the Wynn, I would take their 54-hole event circuit more seriously. This is just one middle-class man’s opinion…
Winners & Losers from Sunday’s Final Round at the Waste Management
- Winner: Starting in pole position on Sunday, Detry tied the round of the day, a 6-under-par 65, eventually winning the tourney by 7 shots. He kicked some serious butt down the stretch and looked every bit the part of a player who is going to win multiple times on tour, sooner than later.
- Winner: Look out boys, JT is having a sneaky good start to the year. Now up to 11th in OWGR, Thomas has only failed to break par once in 16 rounds, including matching Detry’s 65 shot yesterday.
- Loser: After making a birdie on the 5th hole yesterday, twinner Rasmus Hojgaard was sitting two shots back from Detry and making a strong push to catch up to the leader. Then the wheels came off—way off—until he finished with birdie, birdie to land in 12th place. He looked ready to pressure the guy from Brussels down the stretch but flamed out on national TV. The super-talented 23-year-old from Denmark will have plenty of chances to impress throughout his career.
- Biggest Loser: Sungjae Im didn’t make his first birdie of the day Sunday until the 17th. And only after he had doubled both 15 and 16. His final round 4-over-par 75 was the 3rd worst score on Sunday, leading to him dropping 38 spots on the leaderboard (finished T-57). Ouch.
- Biggest Winner: Sam Burns finished up with a 65 on Sunday. He jumped the most spots on the leaderboard, finishing up just ahead of Sungjae in the T-49 position.
