Forget booming drives and laser-like irons—this 2025 Ryder Cup came down to which squad putted better. On Friday and Saturday, the competition wasn’t even close. The Euros whooped on the Americans, seemingly making every legacy-defining, momentum-changing putt. Leading the way was Justin Rose, who putted magically with his trusty Scotty Cameron. His flat stick performance was as good as any golfer’s over two days in the history of the competition. Hell, it might have been the best in the history of the game, let alone the PTSD-inducing caldron that is the Ryder Cup.
Then came Sunday. The Americans were making everything right up until the very end. Sadly, Russell Henley, who made a bazillion birdies through 16 holes at Bethpage, couldn’t capitalize on two darts that he hit on 17 and 18, missing putts when his foe Shane Lowry was making his. Shane’s six-foot knee knocker on the last locked up the Euros victory in the Ryder Cup. Henley, one of the best putters in the world, played with a Scotty prototype (good luck finding this putter at Roger Dunn). Lowry’s stroke held up to the pressure with his big hands squeezing the life out of his TaylorMade Spider Tour Z, a putter any of us can find online or in retail.
