WITB Presented by Golf Galaxy: Patton Kizzire, Procore Championship

After doing a little online research, we learned Procore Championship victor Patton Kizzire is sponsored by Titleist. Leading up to the Procore, we’re almost certain Titleist had not been featuring Patton in their tv commercials and print ads (at least we hadn’t seen his mug on our 75-inch anytime recently). That space is reserved for their biggest stars and hottest players. After this victory, we’re hoping Patton gets his due and TV time. He played lights out winning by five. He more than deserves a bit of late-season fame.

Key Takeaways from Patton’s Gear

  1. Kizzire won with four different Titleist iron models. This season we never saw a winning set up with more than three models. He played with T200 3-4 irons, T100 5-iron, 620 CB 6-iron, 620 MB 7-9 irons (all with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts). Per Titleist’s website, 80 percent of their players are teeing it up with blended sets of at least two Titleist iron models. Patton was like, “Only two. That’s weak. I like the number 4 and I’m gonna play four.”
  2. Patton put the NEW Titleist GT3 9.0 driver (Fujikura Motore X F1 6 X) into play seven tourneys ago. Overall, 61 players (42%) had a Titleist driver in the bag this week in Napa, with 47 of those drivers being NEW GT models. The nearest competitor had 34 drivers in play.
  3. He played with a TaylorMade Q1 15 degree 3-wood. There are quite a few players on tour who are playing with a Q1 fairway wood. And, many aren’t getting paid to play it. Ummmmmm…
  4. Vokey wedges. But of course. Interestingly, his lob wedge only has 4 degrees of bounce. He must practice his short game A LOT to feel comfortable enough to play with a lobber with such little bounce. For mere mortals, we’d all be hitting fatties with only 4 degrees of ground support.
