WITB Presented by Golf Galaxy: Xander Schauffele, 2024 PGA Championship

Now that Rahm has joined Mickelson on LIV, Xander Schauffele is Callaway Golf’s #1 endorser. Sadly, you can’t even find either LIV standout on Callaway’s website. Man, has the world of professional golf changed.

Back to Xander: He has earned his #1 position in the pantheon of paid Callaway endorsers. And with his victory yesterday at Vahalla, his fat endorsement contract hopefully will begin to pay off in spades for the Carlsbad-based club and ball manufacturer. Just how big is that bulging contract of his? Our guess is at least $6-7M a year – but he still manages to sneak in a couple of Vokey wedges into his bag for good measure. At least he plays Callaway’s Chrome Tour ball. We wonder if Rahm still tees it up with a Chrome Tour…

He only wears two logos on tour, not counting his trusty Addidas shoes. Callaway and Descente, a skiwear brand that hasn’t even launched a golf line yet. (???) We like the Descente logo and won’t hesitate to wear it once we get the free swag shipment.

Key Takeaways from Xander’s Vahalla Gear Set-Up:

  1. He prefers the Triple Diamond model of Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Callaway drivers. The smaller head is marketed to give better players more playability. 10.5 degrees. When he wants to, he can hit a high launcher, but prefers a lower ball flight and more rollout with his driver.
  2. He didn’t carry a 3-wood at the PGA. He went with a 4-wood. Yesterday, playing with Collin Morikawa in the final round, he routinely outdrove the diminutive past PGA champion with only his 4-wood.
  3. He played with a 4-hybrid that was set at a 3-hybrid loft. He hit a handful of awesome shots with the club throughout the week; and it came up big on Sunday on the long par-3 #14 on the back nine coming in. Hey average Joe’s, play hybrids. Don’t be silly. Be nasty.
  4. Zander players with two sand wedges – a 52-degree Callaway Jaws and a 56-degree (bent to 57 degrees) Vokey. That’s an interesting decision. That 52 is a great club to pull when he wants to flight down a shot inside of 120 yards and knock some spin off it.
