WITB Winner’s Bag: Chris Kirk at the 2024 The Sentry

When Chris Kirk made his par putt on 18 yesterday on The Plantation Course at Kapalua, he closed out a week (four days of competition) having made 29 birdies and only a single bogey. Let that sink in. He just won a Signature PGA TOUR event with a 40% birdie rate over 72 holes. We’re firm believers that he really likes and feels comfortable with his gear set-up.

The Team Callaway man didn’t play with a full bag of Callaways nor a Callaway ball. In total his bag featured three manufacturers. (Odyssey, which could be considered the 4th club company in his bag, is owned and managed by Callaway, so we are sticking with three.) Of note, none of Callaway’s new gear that will be launched at the PGA Show later this month was put into play by Kirk.

Key set-up takeaways:

  • Kirk’s ball of choice was Titleist Pro V1x, Titleist’s firmest tour ball that also generates the lowest spin rates for better players.
  • No 3-iron, no need. Instead, his set-up included a TaylorMade Stealth lower-lofted 5-wood, which he can hit sky-high.
  • His 4-iron, the Apex Pro model, is marketed as a “low-to-mid handicap golfer option” providing forgiveness and delivers better shot-shaping than his primary set. It’s a club you’d see in a 10 handicapper’s bag.
  • His pitching wedge, gap wedge, and lob wedge are all Callaway Jaws MD5. But his sand wedge is a 56-degree Vokey SM9. Interesting…
