Peter Malnati emotional after first PGA Tour win in more than 8 years
– by Jack Hirsh / GOLF
Per Jack: “Peter Malnati was far from the favorite to win this week’s Valspar Championship.
The 36-year-old journeyman PGA Tour pro, ranked 184th in the world, has been in the headlines over the past few months, but not because of his play….”
B&B POV: One of the good guys on the PGA TOUR won the Valspar yesterday, 36-year-old Peter Malnati. His final round 67 and two-shot victory over Mr. Runner-Up Cameron Young was an impressive showing. And if you were watching the event on TV and saw his post-tourney, pre-trophy ceremony interview, you know just how big a deal winning was for Peter. Real tears. Raw emotion. A true celebration of feats.
5 things to know from the Seri Pak Championship, where Nelly Korda returns to No. 1 after playoff victory
– Adam Woodard / Golfweek
– Beth Ann Nichols / Golfweek
Per Beth: “Nelly Korda won her second event of the season at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship following a seven-week break from the tour.
After making back-to-back bogeys to close out regulation at Palos Verdes Golf Club near Los Angeles and enter a playoff against fellow American Ryann O’Toole, Korda gathered herself and drained a 15-foot birdie putt dead center on the first extra hole to clinch her 10th career title…”
B&B POV: World #1 Nelly Korda won in a playoff over fellow American Ryann O’Toole in the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship at Palos Verdes GC on Sunday. The course and conditions were playing tough. Having played Palos Verdes before, trust us when we say that course is a perfect fit for an LPGA event. A super track with views of the Pacific. This was Nelly’s 10th victory on tour and takes her career earnings to $9.5M.
WITB Winner’s Bag: Peter Malnati, 2024 Valspar Championship
– Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
– Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
Per Thomas: “Peter Malnati is primarily known for two things on tour. One, he plays with a yellow Titleist Pro V1x golf ball. The only golfer on the PGA TOUR to play a yellow ball (we love us some yellow pellots). Secondly, he prances around the course in a comfortably flaccid bucket hat. The kind of hat that usually makes it rounds at the local muni during the warmer, sweatier months. Not the most fashionable look. But for Malnati, he makes it work. And on Sunday, playing a full bag of Titleist clubs and his yellow Pro V1 pellots, he beat a solid PGA TOUR field to win the Valspar Championship. How about them apples!
Malnati’s Golf Gear:
DRIVER: Titleist TSR3 (10 degrees), with Project X Denali Blue 60 TX shaft
FAIRWAY WOOD: Titleist TSi3 (15 degrees), with Fujikura Ventus Blue TR 70 X shaft
HYBRID: Titleist 818 H2 (19 degrees), with Graphite Design Tour AD DI 95 X shaft
IRONS: Titleist T200 (4), T150 (5), T100 (6-9), with True Temper AM Tour White S400 shafts

PAYDAY! 2024 Valspar Championship Prize Money Payout
– by Thomas Hamden / Balls & Bogeys
Per Thomas: What would it be like to earn $1.5M for hitting a little yellow ball into 72 little holes? With a few million people watching you on TV; and tens of thousands of people in person watching and shifting and drinking and wishing you were Tiger and not a journeyman playing a yellow ball in a bucket hat. Well, Peter Malnati knows firsthand how bloody awesome it is. Banking $1.5M, and lifting a Big-A on a big day.
Tour Confidential: Scheffler’s domination, PGA Tour-Saudi meeting
– by GOLF Editors
Check in every week for the unfiltered opinions of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest topics in the sport, and join the conversation by tweeting us at @golf_com. This week we discuss Scottie Scheffler’s dominance, the PGA Tour’s latest PIF meeting, Jon Rahm’s Masters Champions Dinner menu and more.
What does B&B think?
- Would professional golf be better (for fans) with one dominant player? Only if that player had blazing charisma and some big name challengers nipping at his heals every week like how Tiger had Ernie, Vijay, Phil, etc.
- If you were on tour, what’s the one question you’d want PIF’s Al-Rumayyan to answer? What’s your end game? But a close 2nd: Do you regret paying Lee Westwood all that money?
- Does Rahm miss the PGA TOUR more than his peers? His words make it seem like he’s bored playing LIV exhibitions. He’s got to be jacked that Majors season kicks off in a couple of weeks.
- What training aid or gadget has helped your game the most? The glorious Ginty.
- If you won the Masters, what would you serve at the Champ’s Dinner? Roll in the Wynn Buffet.
